What Brand Style are You? Hippie, Hip or High End?

Private Labeling your own products is an exciting venture!  After using other companies’ creams for years, you finally get to formulate your own great line choosing the exact active ingredients, packaging, names, label design and even scents that will set you apart and create a brand that is unique to you.  You already know the benefits of having your own hair or skincare line; higher profit margins coupled with exclusive products that are not sold anywhere else.  So, it’s tempting to dive right in and start choosing containers, creating color schemes and concocting fragrances to develop irresistible products that are ready to take on the beauty world by storm!  But before leaping off the ledge into the wonderous world of private labeling, take some time to ponder the following considerations before placing your first order.

Who is Your Ideal Customer?  The answer to this question will help you decide major decisions about, well, everything!  And no, the answer is NOT “Everyone who has skin!”  It is critical to narrow down your niche and target one of three main groups of individuals:  1) The Organic Hippie 2) The Young and Hip or 3) The Haute High End.  Making this initial assessment will help streamline all of your branding decisions, keep your target audience in focus and increase your chance for success!

  1. The Organic Hippie – The range for this class of customers spans from 70 to 17 years old and across all ethnicities. Most organic consumers are in the middle to upper salary ranges.  People that are new to buying organic products tend to focus on key words on the label and are usually not partial to any particular brand. Words like “natural”, “botanical”, “cruelty free” and of course “organic” will grab their attention so if this is your target audience, best to include these words on the front label and possibly even in the name of your brand.  Savvy consumers understand the value of organic and are willing to spend more money on their products.  They are also looking for something beyond just organically grown ingredients and want active, superlative products.  This is why you need to choose high quality formulations that make a noticeable positive improvement in your client’s skin and hair.  Fresh color schemes that include white are often used.  Containers are made out of recyclable materials and to reduce waste, may not include “double packaging” in the way of a box.  Products are fragranced with essential oils or scents that are nature based like lavender, cucumber or rose.
  2. The Young and Hip– Think millennial.  This group of young adults wants fun products that reflect their exuberance and focus on hot trending ingredients.  Packaging is brightly colored and can even include metallic images and closures.  The box is Queen in this packaging scheme.  It can present like a work of art enticing the consumer with coolness and the promise of a quality product inside. This group also spends more money on fragrance than previous generations and are looking for a unique “scent-sory” experience.  Focus on unique and whimsical smells and products that can add some perfume to the body in the way of a lotion or hair treatment; not necessarily spritzed out of an atomizer.
  3. The Haute High End– This has nothing to do with a person’s socioeconomic condition or status.  It has to do with their state of mind and the experience they desire while choosing and applying their products. Darker jewel-toned branding on frosted glass or black packaging with matching or gold toned closures appeals to this set that often includes baby-boomers and beyond.  Luxurious and anti-aging treatments are the name of the game.  These clients are willing to pay a higher price point when they see ingredients that will slow the hands of time; retinol, Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and ceramides will be at the fore-front of your label – a label that will simultaneously be exuding sexiness and class!

Of course, this list is not finite.  There are many other niches that you can target to create a super star product line that specifically appeals to your ideal customer and reflects the brand that is uniquely YOU!  Call us today and we will introduce you to products, packages and perfumes that are a perfect fit for your personal brand.

Scents & Scents-Ability

It all started with some flowers…and the human ability to detect aromas…and thus was born our obsession with all things smelly and the art and science of aromatherapy.   Ancient civilizations used plants as far back as 4,000 years for everything from flavoring foods to anointing themselves for a hot date out to the pyramids or scenting their bath water.  Cleopatra, the iconic seductress, was supposedly a big fan of Egyptian Jasmine, sultry Indian Patchouli and even Grapefruit.  The Queen was onto something here as a recent study has revealed that these scents, particularly Grapefruit, were shown to illicit feelings of sexual arousal in men.  Way to go, Cleo!

Because our products are botanical based and include flower and herb extracts and nut, seed and essential oils, some of them have slight natural scents from the organic and natural ingredients used and are lovely as is.  Many of them do not have a strong fragrance and are considered “scent free”.  This is based on the type of plant, the extraction process of the plant parts and the concentration used in the product.  We understand the importance of aromatic experiences and offer beautiful fragrances that can be added to our scent free bath, body, hair and skin products.  Our Project Consultants can inform you of the products that best lend themselves to additional aroma and can guide you on selecting an essential oil or fragrance oil to create a unique signature scent that will distinguish your brand.

So how can you scent your organic private label skin and hair products to create a memorable experience for your customers while avoiding fragrances that smell like they came out of a chemical factory?  Pravada provides two effective, safe and delightful offerings with hundreds of aromas to choose from.

Essential Oils

  • These are aromatic volatile liquids distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds.
  • Each essential oil may consist of hundreds of different and unique chemical compounds and are highly concentrated – far more potent than dried herbs.
  • The scent will dissipate after application when exposed to air and the warmth of your skin.
  • Pravada provides about 15 essential oils to choose from.
  • Since they are derived from nature, allergies should be considered.

Fragrance Oils

  • These are created in the lab and because they are non-volatile, the aroma is more stable and lasts much longer than the smell from essential oils.
  • Not all plants release essential oils that can be used for scent. Good examples are blueberries and apples.  If you would like something to have those aromas, a fragrance oil is a perfect solution!
  • Pravada provides 100’s of fragrance oils to choose from that are phthalate free.
  • Specific plant allergies do not come into play when using fragrance oils.

Two scents are included with each product purchase so let your inner-Cleo create a fragrance profile that is unique and captures the essence of your individual brand!

Proven Skin Care Ingredients You Should Know – BHA and AHA

Professional Skin Care Ingredients – AHA & BHA

Throughout your career as a skin care professional, you are likely to be asked about the best ways to exfoliate. And, if you’re like the rest of us, you’re always on the hunt for the latest information to offer your clients.

Today, let’s take a dive into alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and beta hydroxy acids (BHA), two important ingredients in our private label skin care. It’s fair to consider AHA and BHA cousins – with enough in common to make them related, but different enough to stand alone.

In a moment we’ll break down the similarities and differences between the two, but first, let’s review why we need to exfoliate at all. Skin – no matter how healthy – exfoliates dead cells every single day. Over time though, the process slows and our skin does not shed dead cells as effectively. The unfortunate result of this slowdown includes dry, flaky, dull skin. It can also lead to clogged and/or enlarged pores, unexplained bumps, new wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and loss of firmness.

The value of exfoliation simply cannot be overstated. Two of the best ways to exfoliate involve using products that include AHA or BHA, and that’s where our private label skin care products come in.

AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) in Skincare

Essentially, AHAs are a class of chemical compounds that can be synthetic or naturally occurring. They’re water-soluble and can be made from sugary fruits. Our organic private label skin care provides AHA products that break down the outer layer of skin and peel it away, leaving new (and evenly pigmented skin) to take its place.

Because AHAs are so effective, it’s important to use it only once every other day, unless otherwise directed.

Although AHA contains the word acid, our private label natural skin care is actually gentler on skin than many scrubs on the market. AHA-containing products are great for clients who suffer from acne or are frustrated by acne scars and want help to reduce them. AHA can also be used on other acne-prone areas, like chest or back. It’s important to remind clients of the importance of using sunscreen while using AHA products.

BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) in Skincare

As mentioned, BHAs are closely related to AHAs. In fact, the two compounds are separated by a single carbon atom. Like AHAs, they are good for treating acne. BHAs are also great for getting rid of dead skin and allowing new, fresh skin to grow. They’re the go-to for correcting dark spots and photo damage and can even help improve the texture of skin.

If you have a client with oily, acne-prone skin, a BHA exfoliant is your best option. It’s oil-soluble and penetrates beneath the skin’s surface to clean out pores and reduce oil. It also makes its way through clogged pores to treat blackheads and whiteheads. Best of all, BHAs have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that reduce swelling and make skin healthier.

AHA and BHA Similarities and Differences

Both alpha hydroxy face cream and beta hydroxy face cream work to improve hydration and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. They both reduce age spots and skin discoloration. And finally, they both remove dead skin, leaving softer, younger-appearing skin.

In short, an AHA cream is better for dry skin and helps improve the skin’s moisture content, whereas BHAs exfoliate at a deeper level and are the best option for oily, acne-prone skin.

For the best of both worlds, an AHA plus BHA cleanser sinks deeply into the pores to clean, works to reduce unwanted discoloration, and leaves the skin feeling soft.

Marine Complex: Rehydrate Skin with Sea Minerals and Ocean Extracts

Our team at Pravada Private Label works hard to ensure you have access to only the best private label skin care products for your cosmetics line. We’re pleased to offer a complete collection of Marine Complex products designed to rehydrate with sea minerals and ocean extracts. This protocol provides everything needed for pampering the skin for a beautiful, healthy glow.

Here is a list of our top five Marine Complex products in the protocol and why they make a great addition to any line of natural and organic based skin care products.

Marine Complex Masque

As the first step in the protocol, our Marine Complex Masque is mild enough for use several times a week. It includes a variety of ocean elements including seaweed, Irish moss, and spirulina to help to restore firmness and elasticity to skin. Safflower oil, sweet almond oil, rice brand oil, and grapeseed oil provide significant levels of hydration and antioxidant protection. This cream-based clay mask is a fan favorite, as it won’t harden fully like other clay masks and washes easily away with water. It is suitable for all skin types and is designed to tighten pores without drying the skin.

Marine Complex Cleanser

Our Marine Complex Cleanser is packed with vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and polysacharides that promote a balanced and dewy complexion. Designed to be used twice daily, the formula includes nourishing and skin enriching botanicals such as tea tree oil, burdock root, and red clover. If used as part of the overall system, this cleanser has shown to reduce age spots and minimize wrinkles for glowing skin. This is really the basis of the whole protocol and is sometimes used as the first step in lieu of the masque.

Marine Complex Hydration Mist

As our signature toner in the protocol, our Marine Complex Hydration Mist features organic aloe leaf juice and hyaluronic acid to draw in lasting hydration for soft, supple skin. Best used after cleansing, the product can be misted over your face or applied traditionally to a cotton pad and used as a toner. This product is a client favorite!

Marine Complex Serum

Next in the system comes our Marine Complex serum. As a delivery system for added hydration, this product features the benefits of ninety trace ocean minerals to help brighten skin and leave you looking flawless. After using our Marine Complex Cleanser and Hydration Mist, apply the serum directly onto your entire face, neck, and decollete. This product is designed for daily use for optimum results.

Marine Complex Hydration Creme

For added moisture after the serum, apply our Marine Complex Hydration Creme. This light and fresh formula features the same benefits of other products in the line, but has added jojoba oil and shea butter that will give skin a glow without looking shiny. It is designed for daily use to help rapidly restore firmness and elasticity to the skin. Suitable for all skin types, this is the perfect boost for combating dryness—especially during the summer months!

These Marine Complex products make a great addition to your line of natural skin care products. The best part? Our team can help you private label these products with your own company or logo, giving your clients all the benefits of the Marine Complex product line while allowing you to showcase your own brand.

Under Eye Care – Let’s Talk Eye Cremes and Eye Serums!

When developing your private label skin care or private label cosmetic line it’s important to always have options for under eye care. Often we neglect our under eyes, forgetting it’s considerably thinner than the rest of our skin, which causes the area to become dark, dry, puffy, wrinkle and sag quicker than the rest of our face. Genetics, diet, hydration, or sleep are all factors that can effect the delicate area.

It’s important for both men and women to be proactive in their under eye regime and it’s never too late to start. At Pravada Private Label, we updated our eye serums, eye cremes, and eye treatments to provide you and your clients the best eye care options! Incorporating Probiotics Into Skin Care

Incorporating Probiotics Into Skin Care

We’ve all heard the word before – probiotics. It’s a buzzword that’s everywhere, taking the private label skin care, wellness and health market by storm. Normally we take the supplement on it’s own or make sure it’s incorporated to our diet but, now it’s being introduced to skin care. Let’s breakdown probiotics to see why you need it in your private label skin care or private label cosmetic line.

What Are Probiotics?

When you hear the word bacteria, you probably think of germs or infections. These live microorganisms can of course be related to that but, our body needs bacteria to properly function and maintain health. Probiotics are “good” live bacteria and yeast. Our body is made up of “good” and “bad” bacteria but, after taking for example, antibiotics, you may have more “bad” bacteria than “good”. Probiotic supplements and probiotic heavy foods (when ingested) act to balance and maintain both types of bacteria.

Probiotics In Skin Care

Why do we need probiotics in our private label cosmetic or private label skin care line? Our skin, like the rest of our body, is made up of bacteria. Just like taking a supplement to balance the microorganisms, topically applying skin care products with probiotic ingredients work in a similar fashion. When our skin is out of balance this can cause even the “good” bacteria to turn “bad”. Reactions may be, acne, dryness, dark spots or rosacea. Adding probiotic products to your private label skin care line will help balance and maintain your client’s skin concerns. Here are some benefits of probiotics when used in skin care:

  • Protects skin against environmental damage
  • Maintains skin’s hydration, fighting against dryness
  • Calms and soothes the skin to help fight redness and irritation
  • Help restore skin’s natural pH balance
  • Gently exfoliates dead cells and boosts collagen

Rejuvenate tired, dull complexions with this ultra hydrating, mineral rich facial masque. Kaolin clay is infused with the natural benefits of probiotics, kale, and carrot proteins. Probiotics extracted from yogurt gently exfoliate, calm and moisturize the skin while boosting skins collagen production. These ingredients work together to soften and detoxify the skin.

Enzyme Activation! Private Label this Popular Peel.

The use of enzymes in the skincare industry has become mainstream and the catalogue of these powerful proteins is ever expanding. These natural catalysts from nature promise a brighter complexion and deeper product penetration through increased exfoliation. But what exactly is an enzyme and how does it help the skin?

Enzymes are proteins that help speed up the rate of naturally occurring chemical reactions. The ones commonly used in skincare products are known as proteolytic enzymes. They function by breaking down keratin proteins that are in dead cells helping rid the skin of extra, obsolete tissue. The other function of enzymes used in skin treatments is as an antioxidant – protecting the skin from free radicals generated by sun exposure and pollution.

Pravada’s private label Triple Enzyme Peel is an effective exfoliant that can be gentler then scrubs or chemical peels. The power of three fruit enzymes makes this product a great multi-tasker. Pomegranate enzyme is a powerful antioxidant that helps to reduce inflammation and brighten the skin. Enzymes from Papaya and Pineapple break down dead skin cells revealing a smoother complexion. This product helps to promote deep hydration, reduce oiliness and relieve skin of irregular pigmentation.

Private label our peel and personalize it with a signature scent to create a professional spa product worthy of your back bar, a space on your retail shelf or in your Amazon storefront. Shop our samples to experience your next private label product phenom!

3 Winter Skin Care Requirements for Your Product Line

As temperatures plummet across the continent, cold weather means drier air.  Heaters inside the home, office and car deplete what little humidity is left, parching skin and destabilizing its protective barrier. Help your clients combat wintertime woes with private label skin care and hair care products that plump and preserve moisture levels in skin.

Barrier Protection – Botanical based creams that prevent evaporation and shield skin from exposure to frigid weather and winter clothes that may be warm, like wool, but are often itchy, are in high demand this time of year.

Best Skin Care Products for Creating a Moisture Barrier:

Products with Ceramides are great options as they help to replace the skin’s natural oils.  Shea Butter is a great wind burn remedy and can be used in higher concentrations on the body and in smaller amounts on the face. Try Pravada’s:

Lock Moisture In– Private label skin care products that contain humectants like Hyaluronic Acid (HA) help to trap and hold water in the skin.  Ensure that products have botanical based HA and educate clients to apply these moisture retention treatments to skin immediately after cleansing. Try Pravada’s:

Choose the product perfect for your target market and price point.  Offer a lotion to layer on top such as the Advanced Smoothing Cream for a double Hyaluronic Acid infusion.  Rescue dry hair with our Hydra-Silk Leave-In Treatment, rich with Jojoba and Hemp Oils to smooth frizz and restore shine.

Add an Eye Cream– The skin under the eyes is thin and can quickly dehydrate.  Clients complain of crepey, flaky under eye tissue during the winter months.  Offer them an herbal remedy that provides immediate visible results.  For optimal hydration, offer layers of peptides. Try Pravada’s:

Both are loaded with Amino Acids and Antioxidants to ward off wrinkles and smooth delicate skin.

How Can You Market to Skintellectuals?

How Can You Market to Skintellectuals?

When selling your private label skin care products to consumers, it’s important to know what types of customers will value the natural, high-quality products that you are offering.  In the beauty industry, one group of consumers to consider targeting are skintellectuals.  Since they are a growing group, engaging skintellectuals can be very beneficial to your company.

Who are Skintellectuals?

Skintellectuals are self-taught, discerning, clued-in customers that are seeking highly effective, no-frills products with competitive price points. This group has a growing influence in the marketplace and expect “full disclosure” on their products with ingredient forward marketing that cuts the fluff and focuses on facts.

When designing your marketing plan for your private label skin care or hair care line – keep these three tips in mind to ensure you capture the interest of the most savvy skintellectuals:

1) Focus on Safety

Formulation safety is paramount and clever consumers steer clear of blacklisted ingredients. To have your marketing materials point out what’s not in the product is equally as important as highlighting what is inside. Icons on the packaging indicating “paraben free”, “cruelty free”, and “phthalate free” help skintellectuals make quick decisions about whether they are going to further investigate the product.  Safety for the environment is also considered as sustainably sourced and organically grown botanicals are favored.

2) Spend More Money on Quality, Less on Marketing

These astute shoppers are looking for specific ingredients to deliver specific outcomes and they will use these key ingredients as search criteria for their next purchase. They appreciate a simple delivery from a company that spends money on quality product focusing most of their resources on what’s inside the bottle. When a product has high efficacy and delivers results, it will build loyalty in these customers. “More bang for the buck” is their mantra and they will scour ingredient lists and pricing to find great value.

3) Be Professional and Innovative

The digital revolution has knocked down the doors of the beauty industry and no longer are there secrets in this profession. In the era of DIY, consumers know about products, devices and hacks that used to be exclusive insider information; and they want it for themselves. Facial treatments are weekly self-care and skintellectuals want products with high levels of actives like Retinol, Vitamin C, AHAs and Enzymes. With on-line industry journals and ingredient research at their fingertips, they are on a quest for cutting edge technology and products with scientifically backed claims.

5 Musts for Branding & Marketing Your Private Label Product Line

You’ve heard of the advantages of developing your own line of private label skin or hair care products:  higher profit margins, a loyal client base, and even a higher rate of customer visits to your spa, salon, or online marketplace.  So, you are ready to dive into the creation of your new offerings and are testing samples, developing a signature scent, and picking packaging.

But first, you need to consider the most critical steps in your line design: marketing and branding. Your defined distinction from other sellers will not only dictate the choices you are making regarding your products but will also determine your overall success in the marketplace.

If you’re wondering how exactly anyone markets their private label skin and hair care products, we’re here to help.

How to Market Private Label Products

Marketing private label products is no easy task. To successfully refine your private label marketing and branding strategy consider these 5 points.

1. Know Your Audience

The answer to this question will help you decide major decisions about, well, everything!  And no, the answer is NOT “Everyone who has skin!”  It is critical to narrow down your niche and target one main group of individuals.

Are you marketing private label products to natural and organic product consumers that are typically in the middle to upper salary ranges?  Or perhaps Millennials that want fun products that reflect their exuberance and focus on hot trending ingredients at a great value.  Maybe it’s Baby Boomers who are willing to pay a higher price point when they see ingredients that will slow the hands of time such as:

Making this initial assessment will help streamline all of your private label marketing and branding decisions, keep your target audience in focus, and increase your chance for success!

2. Know Your Competition

It’s time to research the competition, big and small, and analyze what they do well…and what they don’t!  Focus on how you are different and better than these other companies.  Your goal is to entice your target audience to choose you over them.

Is your target audience busy professional males that want simple, safe, and effective products?  Make sure that your packaging is attractive to both men and women, the copy is straightforward, and the products are easy to use and multi-tasking (think: a foaming wash that cleanses the hair, face, and body).

Know what your customers value and be more attractive to them than your competitors by exceeding their expectations.  Your audience will naturally gravitate towards your offerings.

3. Develop Your Mission and Values

A key component of private label marketing is knowing who you are as a business. This will flow through to all of your marketing materials.

It is essential that you spend time developing what the primary goal of your business is (in terms of serving your customers) and what are the deliverables that your company deems essential to its success.  Your mission and values will shape the physical personality of your business and translate into a tagline, a logo, and colors – all that will support your message.

4. Develop Your Image

With a clear understanding of your audience, competition, mission, and values, it is time to brand yourself.  Start by deciding on a legally available name. Identify a trademark lawyer and have them help you determine what you can use and then file for a registered trademark.

Next, develop several logos and ask your peers to chime in on which one best reflects your mission and values. A unique font should establish your style and be sure to make it easy to read in several different sizes.  Choose your color scheme carefully as color can influence the emotional response of your audience. Research common color reactions, for example, blue exhibits trustworthiness, green summons peace, and red elicits excitement and youth. Carry these colors through your entire business.

5. Stay Consistent and Persistent

Once you have established a brand, integrate it into all aspects of your business.  Stay consistent, so you do not confuse your clients or dilute your message.  Everything from your labels to your website, to your storefront (whether it is brick and mortar or digital), should advertise your values and convey the kind of experience your clients can expect.

To establish the visual recognition of your company, you will need to stay consistent and persistent when marketing private label products. And staying true to your branding message will generate loyalty from your clients creating an abundant business!

Determining your private label marketing and branding strategy is the first step in launching your line. March Ingredient Spotlight: Irish Moss

It’s St. Patrick’s Day and we are celebrating the luck of the Irish…Moss, that is!  According to Pinterest, Irish Moss, also known as Sea Moss, is trending and its pinning popularity is up 380%!  Irish Moss is a trend worth keeping as its benefits to the skin are note-worthy and numerous.  And as a skin care ingredient that can create an instant tightening effect of the skin, it would be an appreciated addition to any skin care line.

Irish Moss is actually not a moss but a species of red algae that grows in the cool Atlantic waters along the rocky coastlines of Europe and North America.  It’s quickly gaining a reputation as the next big superfood right alongside Kale and Camu Camu.  Rich in Vitamins E, A, F and K, it supports strong capillaries and the healing and restoration of tissue.  This can help with dark under eye shadows and can increase skin elasticity.

Potassium Chloride, Calcium, Sulfur and a multitude of trace minerals contribute to clear, healthy skin and have been reported to soothe symptoms of psoriasis and eczema. Sea Moss’s jelly-like extract has a natural moisturizing effect on the skin.  It is also edible making it a powerful superfood that can beautify from the outside in…and the inside out.

Look for this superlative Sea Moss in Pravada’s Marine Complex line:
